Perspective is the Place You Stand

Where are you looking? What age does it relate to? What unique truth does it bring? Is this a trauma view looking to the past? Is this view focused from a particular age? Do I face the direction of the future with hope, obsession or escape? Where do I stand? And from this place, what is the blessing and the distortion?

We inhabit multiple perspectives from which we view life. As we view from a particular lens, we orient to this lens as if it is the present. Each perspective or view offers insight and also distortion. It is incomplete.

If I am looking and even looping in life at a particular moment connected to a past trauma event. I stand and look at the past, often from a particular lens of the age and developmental level the trauma occurred. It feels very present. I feel the multidimensional pain of it. It is my life at this moment.

On the other hand, I can be hoping for a different future—standing and facing the future. From this place, I may be hoping and dreaming of how my life should, could or would be. I may even face the future to escape the current present. The present becomes the future when the future does not exist beyond the dream.

ALCHEMICAL SOMATIC CONSTELLATION EXERCISE

If you can… enter this experience with curiosity.

  1. Get three pieces of paper. One to represent an ISSUE OR QUESTION in your current life. The second piece of paper put the word PERSPECTIVE (this will represent the perspective you now stand in related to this issue of question). Third put a piece for MYSELF.

  2. Place the the three pieces of paper on the floor where you feel they should be. Notice the relational placement.

  3. Stand on MYSELF and notice what you feel in your body here. Do emotions arise? What thoughts are going through your mind? Can you perceive the other two representatives? Notice if there is a body, emotional or mental response.

  4. Now stand on the ISSUE or QUESTION. Notice what you feel in your body here. Do emotions arise? What thoughts are going through your mind? Can you perceive the other two representatives? Notice if there is a body, emotional or mental response.

  5. Step on PERCEPTION. Notice what you feel in your body here. Do emotions arise? What thoughts are going through your mind? Can you perceive the other two representatives? Notice if there is a body, emotional or mental response. How does PERCEPTION understand the ISSUE OR QUESTION? Are you facing to the past or the future? What does it want to tell you about how it is looking at the ISSUE or QUESTION? Are you a particular age? What information can you find out about your perception? What is the gift it offers and what is the distortion? Be really curious and find out more.

  6. Return to MYSELF and notice as you stand here has anything changed?

This exercise is designed to give you information on the perception you view a particular issue or question. It can give you insight on what is not moving or what needs to be seen. You can also add a piece of paper that brings support to this system. Where does it want to be to support?
